Does PCDJ DEX 2 need a face lift?
GUI's are paramount to the success of any software product, but even more so when the software in question is for live DJing. DJ Software doesn't necessarily need to look "pretty", but the layout and ergonomics can make or break customer perception, ultimately driving that person to pass or purchase.
The Graphical User Interface, or GUI (pronounced “gooey”) is the technological interface most of us are familiar with. There was a time when you told a computer what to do through text commands. As you might imagine a point and click (or at least a visual...

I captured this "Introduction to Digital DJing" live webinar presentation about 2 years ago. The intent was to explain the very basics of Digital DJing to new DJ's moving over from hardware based rigs to systems centered around a laptop computer solution, and wannabe DJ's starting from scratch.
Djing is as popular as ever, and studies suggest that there are as many kids looking to get behind DJ decks as there are those that want to strum a guitar. If you're just starting out, which likely entails a Digital DJ setup using software via a laptop computer, this video is a great place to learn the...

I admit, I'm as much of a pack rat as I am a gadget and gizmo geek.
Thanks to technology and cheap drive space, I've personally archived years of PCDJ media. From old staff and PCDJ event pictures from when we started back in 1999, to radio drops used when we had a internet 'radio room' of 20 continuous play stations. This is of course back when companies would readily pay for ad space on a EDM internet radio station, but we did have some of the best DJ's in the business mixing live using one of our old PCDJ PHAT freeware applications. One of our DJ's at the time broke a...

DJ Software For FREE
Catchy post title, huh?
Now that I've got your attention, we could use your input! DJ software in recent years has obviously grown substantially in popularity, and one of the big reasons is a broader and still growing user base.
DJ's are today's rock stars. A recent article about Skrillex, the dubstep king that has made the successful leap to DJ/Producer pop stardom over the last two years, outlines how much he makes per the usual gig and yearly - which dwarfs that of many of today's top musical acts.
It's evident electronic music is a driving force behind the movement of...

Where Did All These DJ Controllers Come From?
It's been over 10 years. Wow, I'm old.
The first DJ controller on the market ever, meaning sold commercially in stores as a true professional DJ software controller, was the Numark DMC-1.
This simple, yet very efficient and effective DJ controller at the time, was created by one of our PCDJ team members who oversaw production in China. I still remember the first prototype, with clunky hard plastic buttons and a chrome faceplate that drove you absolutely bonkers trying to keep free of finger smudges (which wasn't changed, but still remains iconic in...
